The pumice pieces are a mistranslation. They're supposed to be the Float stone from Final Fantasy 1 which in that game was used to raise the airship. Which is why it summons Ark.

Steiner's ultimate is probably impossible to get at this point. It's the infamous Excalibur II. The only way to get it is to reach a certain room in the final dungeon in under 12 hours. I don't know what your play time is, but I'm guessing you might have surpassed that. Ragnarok is a runner up.

The Final Fantasy had often had very obscure and hard to find stuff in previous games, but somehow I think FF9 took the cake at this point. Even the most ridiculous stuff in the previous games didn't drop to the level of "abandon what you are doing and visit this one specific place and this one specific time or else you'll lose out on this thing forever", and FF9 does this like 20 times.

Speaking of super obscure bs, good luck finding Zidane's best weapon. I feel like I should at least give a clue because it's hidden in the ocean and be found with a Dead Pepper, but there won't be any bubbles or sign where it is. The clue: think of a place where you couldn't use Dead Peppers before Disc 4.

I really don't know why they were so cagey with the rules, they drop bits of info here and there but it's never all together and just makes things awkward.

When I first played FF9 as a kid I renamed all the characters on a whim. When I got to the point where you enter Garnet's nickname, I decided to name her Sarah specifically because that was the name of the princess from FF1. Low and behold much and much later when I got the shocking revelation that Sarah's real name was... Sarah.

Also, looking back on my older messages I remembered I offered to teach you the rules of Tetra Master. Now that you're nearing the end of the game do you want to find out the true rules, like how the numbers and letters work, or did you work it out?

I actually just went here! There was new info on the Summoner's Wall that I couldn't get before, and a woman by the kitchen who jumped away before I could see her (at a guess I'd say she's the bounty hunter who we beat over here). Not sure how I trigger her coming back, or where to find her if she went away.

Try going again and figure out how to solve the puzzle. If you want a clue: try switching up your party a little.

Yeah, this is Disc 4. And kind of like FF8's Disc 4 a lot of stuff has been locked out or made inaccessible now. Still worth looking around the world as there are some interesting side quests worth checking out. You should definitely make a point of re-visiting Madain Sari for a major, but optional, plot revelation.

Ah good, I already have Earth Shake. I have to say Quina's my fav blue mage of the series gameplaywise, I think. It's seemed much easier to get the good spells in this game (without having to search for them), and the Eat/Cook mechanic is just fun.

You might be the only person in the entire world who thinks this.

I hope I can nail the other three guardians first try, and- oh. The gang already fought them off without me. OK then... This kinda sucks tbh after all the setup, and they bothered to make designs for the guardians and everything!

Yeah. Cut content indicates that these dungeons were supposed to be explored fully and you were supposed to fight more (all?) of the guardians in this sequence but the game was rushed a bit.

And yeah, it's been pointed out that these guardians are the Four Fiends from Final Fantasy 1. Another cool connection to the original game I liked as a kid. I guess it should also be pointed out that Garland is named after an important character from that game as well:

Cloud wasn't even that mopey in FF7, his personality just kind of flattened into that stereotype in the Compilation games. In the original game he was serious, cocky, and (unintentionally on his part) goofy. He just gets that emo image from the fandom that sprung around him and the following games he appeared in which seemed to take more cues from that fandom than his original characterization.

From what it sounds like the new Spider-Man attraction is going to be a "game" ride, like the Toy Story ones, where you can compete for points. If you actually cared about that it would suck to not do as well if you don't buy the add-on toy. Also, it's 65 freaking dollars in total.

On the other, I guess it's not that different from buying the lightsaber in the Star Wars land. If you're a fan and want the thing, I guess it's cool for you.

I was going to ask if you wanted to know about the references to the first three FF games since you haven't played(?) them, or if you'd rather play them later and realize then what the references FF9 made to them were. But if it's the former, then for the FF2 reference Ramuh's story is a direct retelling of a plot from that game.

IIRC the only game before this one to use the term Eidolon is IV, maybe something from there.

FF9 was the first game to use the word Eidolon actually. IV only started using the term in the remakes (the original translation just called them "Summons").

When I first played FF9 my save file got annihilated three times at basically this exact point. It's a testament to how much I liked this game (and just how much I wanted to see what the world outside of the Mist Continent was like) that I kept on replaying the game...

I'm not sure if you recognized it, but the "prince of a desert land gets attacked by a giant antlion" is a big reference to Final Fantasy IV.

The destruction of Cleyra is one of the most memorable moments in the entire series for me. It's such a gut-punch, but also that sight of Odin riding across the sky and blowing up the tree like a nuclear weapon is such an incredible visual.

Not fond of a lot of the changes on paper so far. 1 tank with them all being more brawl focused sounds horrible beyond belief. Blizzard literally sitting here seeing tank role suffering the most and just says they give up. Considering how poorly theyve done with OW1s balance I dont have any faith in OW2 really. Even fewer people are going to want to be tank when theyre the only one. Reduces a ton of options and heavily increases the pressure too

To be fair as primarily a tank player I've been enjoying the shift in the balance so far they've made to make tanks more of brawlers. The buffs to Reinhardt, D.Va, and Roadhog have all made them much more fun to play and more impactful. And when they had that 3-2-1 experimental card last yeah playing as the only tank was freaking amazing. Rein, Winston, and Zarya were so fantastic to play as and you could absolutely carry entire games if you were good enough without worrying about needing your team to support you.

That said, balance is a concern. If the one tank falls, does the whole team just collapse then? On the other hand, if you play DPS you might be able to carry your team yourself if you take care of the opposing tank, so everyone has a chance to make big plays. I much prefer the change the game has been taking to being more focused on individual play as opposed to the over-importance of MOBA style team-based comps that dominated previously and if OW2 heads into that same direction I won't have a problem with it.

I think they should be your first step-cousin. It's kind of confusing because "step-cousin" can also refer to a cousin you gained from a step-parent, but it should be the proper term in both situations.
